Can former Patreon members still use your download links?

Separate cancellation from the end of access, check external sharing permissions and manage future visits through Patreon membership checks.

A cancellation notice does not always mean access should end immediately. And the end of Patreon access does not automatically revoke a Google Drive invitation or an external download URL. Check the membership’s entitlement and the storage permissions separately before deciding what to change.

Separate stopping renewal from the end of access

Patreon access after cancellation depends on the billing model. Subscription-billing members can retain access until their next billing date. Check the actual access period instead of treating the cancellation date as an automatic cutoff.

TierKey uses the membership and entitled tiers reported by Patreon. It is not a system for granting permanent ownership of an archive or tracking which monthly files a member previously purchased. If you promise ongoing access to a purchased product, provide an appropriate delivery route for that promise.

Audit a former member’s route

  1. Identify the link they used. A bookmark to the actual Drive or MEGA destination follows a different route from a TierKey bookmark.
  2. Check Patreon’s membership record and the intended end of access. Do not cancel a real member’s paid period simply because renewal is off.
  3. Review general access, individual invitations and inherited folder access at the storage service. A Patreon change does not revoke those permissions.
  4. Where access must end, revoke the relevant storage share or prepare a new destination. Test the old and new routes independently, then update your member instructions.

How TierKey checks subsequent visits

Publish the TierKey link and choose the tiers that may proceed. TierKey can refuse a later redirect when the membership reported by Patreon no longer meets those conditions. It cannot intercept a destination URL that the visitor already knows.

Checks can reuse a short-lived result; the current implementation allows a positive result to be cached for up to five minutes. Patreon updates and notification delivery can also take time. Do not describe cancellation handling as instantaneous. If Patreon cannot be verified, a temporary error is not proof that membership has ended.

Test both legitimate access and expired access

For a link that has already escaped, replace or revoke the destination itself. Updating the Patreon post or adding TierKey to the same exposed URL does not remove the old direct route.

  1. With consent, test a member whose access is still valid, an account whose entitlement has ended and a non-member. Do not use your creator session as the only test.
  2. Check the access-history failure details and verification time. A tier mismatch, an expired session and a temporary verification failure are different causes.
  3. Confirm the actual file opens for eligible members after the redirect. A successful redirect does not establish that Drive or MEGA granted access.
